newinclude(1) newinclude(1) NNAAMMEE newinclude - create a binary mailing list from an :include: file SSYYNNOOPPSSIISS nneewwiinncclluuddee _l_i_s_t DDEESSCCRRIIPPTTIIOONN nneewwiinncclluuddee reads a sendmail-style ::iinncclluuddee:: file, _l_i_s_t, and converts it into a binary format in _l_i_s_t..bbiinn for use by ffaassttffoorrwwaarrdd. nneewwiinncclluuddee first writes the mailing list to _l_i_s_t..ttmmpp, and then moves it to _l_i_s_t..bbiinn. If there is any problem creating _l_i_s_t..ttmmpp, nneewwiinncclluuddee leaves _l_i_s_t..bbiinn alone. nneewwiinncclluuddee always creates _l_i_s_t..bbiinn world-readable. CCOOMMPPAATTIIBBIILLIITTYY WWAARRNNIINNGG:: sendmail reads _l_i_s_t directly; ffaassttffoorrwwaarrdd needs _l_i_s_t..bbiinn. sendmail's strategy is a disaster if you save _l_i_s_t to disk at the same moment that sendmail reads it; the list will be truncated at a random spot, perhaps in the middle of an address. Furthermore, if the system crashes while you are writing _l_i_s_t, _l_i_s_t could be filled with all sorts of garbage. LLIISSTT FFOORRMMAATT _l_i_s_t may contain any number of lines; each line may contain any number of addresses or further ::iinncclluuddee:: files. See nneewwaalliiaasseess(1) for details on the address format. Any line in _f_i_l_e beginning with # is ignored. CCOOMMPPAATTIIBBIILLIITTYY WWAARRNNIINNGG:: nneewwiinncclluuddee does not support file or program deliveries in ::iinncclluuddee:: files. You can use the secure delivery mecha- nisms described in ddoott--qqmmaaiill((55)) instead. CCOOMMPPAATTIIBBIILLIITTYY WWAARRNNIINNGG:: Versions of sendmail before V8 did not allow comments in ::iinncclluuddee:: files.
